I've noticed that the asking prices on the 16th Century denars have been going much higher of late. That's unfortunate. I hoped to get at least one coin from each 16th century year, and with my budget it looks like I'll have to rely a lot less on Hungarian denars and a lot more on random finds. (I have a total of one Hungarian denar, which I have yet to remove the €10 sticker from - though I bought it for less than that. I don't recall the date offhand, but it's somewhere in the mid-16th century.) |

It has a sigla of 2 points straddling 3:00.  4. Contemporary counterfeit made of silvered copper resembling coin 3 above (Geza II;Huszar 159,Unger 60).  5. It has a legend variation of REInA VnGARIE on obverse and MOnETA MARIA on reverse.  6. 1469 K-Shield Hungarian Denar under King Matthias Corvinus;Huszar 717,Unger 562i,Pohl 216-9. Many of these anonymous denars have over 400 sigla varieties   . I couldn't imagine the proof-reading in these catalogs. Edited by EddieDiz

The lamb shows up on some gold coins in Belgium and France around the same time. That parvus must be a truly tiny coin at 1/3 of a denar! |
