It's just discoloration, commonly called "toning"

Looks like normal circulation toning to me.

Environmental factors can and will create all sorts of colors on coins over time.

t's environmental toning from being in the environment. It's Environmental Damage (ED).

I found a shield cent like that recently. It was as brown as a 1945 wheatie. Really strange to see, as most shield cents are still pretty shiny!
