Hello everyone! I would like your thoughts on this 1998 D Lincoln Memorial cent I've found in pocket change. It has a lot of crusty crud or gas bubbles and an unusual pattern crack (most visible in 2nd face image) or something on it? Inline elements seem to be intact within the patterned crack, chip or whatever it is. Thanks for having a look!

It does not look like a die crack, it looks more like blistery zinc rot setting in.
I think this coin spent some times under an object which promoted the zinc rot and got to where it is today.

Right, and spend it before it rots away to nothing.

I take rust off of chrome with a crumpled piece of aluminium foil dipped in coke (acola) - I could imagine how zinc would react.

Yep, it's Zinc Rot from the Copper plating breaking, causing the Zinc core to get exposed.
