I'm new to coin collecting. I started buying silver as an investment and and picked up collecting error coins somewhere along the way. From reading previous post comments on here a few of these years together are notorious for errors and my question is about this 1980 which appears to have a double die on the reverse AMERICA but I have my doubts because it doesn't look like the other DD's I've seen. On the Obverse it is called a stable vertical misalignment.

To CCF! On the obverse, there's no Doubled Die.

You are seeing class Machine Doubling. No premium for these. The strike just happened, then the die bounced/swung/moved slightly altering the affected areas. A very common event that happened after the strike. Not a doubled die. On a doubled die, the doubling is on the die and same strike to strike. On MD damage it varies from strike to strike and is common. But MD can also happen on doubled dies as well. But your is not one of these. Just MD.

I was thinking Machine Doubling but wasn't quite sure cause it's the biggest MD I've seen as of yet. The only Lincoln Cent errors I've found so far have been in the nastiest, gummed up and heavily corroded cents that took rinsing under the tap for about five minutes but it's a goo#8319;d start. Someday I'll be able to pass up the nasty ones lol. Thank you guys for your insight. Oh on that obverse, the way it's not centered on the coin, what is that called? And it's just a machine error right, Not like a broadstrike? Thanks again for your help. I look forward to watching your videos about double die errors

Misaligned die(MAD) or a "tilted" die.

Yep, it's Machine Doubling on the reverse, since the devices are reduced in size, and it's shelflike (flat) in appearance. http://www.error-ref.com/machine-doubling
