Pretty positive on this one since the notching is extremely evident on the "IN GOD". Only reason I doubt myself is because the doubling on "WE TRUST" is not as strong as on the example in my cherrypicker's guide - but this could possibly be a late die state.

Hi,

It is a later die state and that's whey the lettering on WE TRUST looks so "Poofy". (Not an official numismatic term) A close look at even the WE TRUST shows the signs of nice doubling. It is a DDO.

Also, keep in mind that the CPG doesn't show pictures of every die variety for a single year so you can match coins up to some of the pictures but that will not work 100% of the time.

I think what is important here is that you are able to recognize what you are seeing now. I often tell people that once you see the real thing, it becomes easier to see the right kind of doubling on other coins. You are doing well!

Have Fun,
Bill

Thanks for helping to confirm Bill. I definitely feel like I'm getting a better eye for the real deal, thanks in large part to the helpful feedback of folks like you, CC, Coop, MikeD, and others on these forums!

I've always believed that you need to train your eye to see what you really want to find. Recognize what a doubled die/RPM is and then you will know what isn't a variety. But the best tool to accelerate your learning is to have varieties of all of the different types in hand. Then you can see how strong they are/how directional they can be/how images can make the spread look stronger/weaker by just turning the coin. Always look at each coin as a possible variety and if it doesn't jump out at you, then it may not be a variety. Stronger magnification just enhances something that is not really there/not really collect able/or something too minor to bother with. Having them in hand helps a lot!
