Hi,

I found this coin in a coin roll. I cannot figure out what type of error this is.

I researched this site as well as Lincolncentresource.com and a few other sites.

I don't think it is Machine Doubling. I think it is a double die or strike? The error planchet caused doubling when struck?

I am new to coin collecting. I'm sorry if I used incorrect nomenclatures...correct me where I am wrong please.

Can you help me?

to the forum!

That's Die Deterioration. This type is sometimes called a " Ridge Ring". You'll see it on a lot of late die state 1980s-1990s zinc cents.

Thank you for the fast response! I searched google and from what you are saying Die Deterioration/Deformation does not increase the value of the coin. Correct?

You're very welcome and no problem! No, but you can keep it if you want for future references though.

Die Deterioration + another penny was smashed into this one to form that indent ( usually from coin rolling machines )

Nice pics. Good luck on your searching. This is a great place. Stick around and learn. I've been searching for over 30 years and learned something new today.
