I received this token or coin in an old coin purse my great aunt gave me 45 years ago with other old coins, some as old as 1790, and I've never known what it is. I found your forum and I thought I would reach out to see if someone could identify it. Thank you in advance for taking a look.

It reminded me of an early colonial private issue but the one I was thinking of is copper and extremely rare. If you could give the dimension and weight it may help also. The central circle is a common design of early colonials but usually have a radiate starburst or circles around the edges. But it probably does relate to your other dated coins.

It is right around 20-21 mm. I don't know the weight and I'm not even sure if it's brass or bronze but it feels heavier than a normal coin

The 1st seems to have lettering at the top that looks like RICH LO(M?)
Perhaps a button or cuff link, and the rough round area in the middle is where the hook part used to be at one time, which would make the 1st picture the reverse?

@s123, first welcome to CCF. Second, my initial thought was that this was part of button as well. As @paralyse noted, when the loop is broken off, it can leave a central crater similar to what you have on your piece. That said, it seems a bit odd for there to be that much detail on the underside of a button. In addition to the circle and inscription noted by others, it looks to me like there is some sort of sprig or partial wreath visible from about seven to nine o'clock.

Yes it has a partial wreath or Olive Branch on the left side. Metal seems soft so I keep it in a coin case.

While the right side of the coin or token seems to be worn and gone I changed the orientation of the picture. is there a coin or token where there are opposing twigs on each side at the bottom of the coin.

I am in the "button camp" probably civil war... look up civil war flat buttons... on the reverse of many are words such as "RICH COLOR" or "RICH GOLD COLOR" etc.

below is another example... the laurel looks similar to yours .... this may be a variation from the same "unidentified" manufacturer the example below has "EXTRA" across the top perhaps yours was a "standard"?

Wow, You guys are awesome thank you very much I think you are dead on with the button assessment.
I never would have known and it might also add a little more to the family history.
This is a wonderful Forum community and I will definitely be sharing this experience.
Thank you again!
