Here's an interesting question I can't seem to find any answers for.

During my time CRH I've come across a few coins that just seems odd or out of the norm. What I mean by this is when I look in the fields of the coin. Usually looking for specific die markers. Once in a while I'll see very faint, but slightly "raised" marks resembling letters or images of either the same coin which may have been rotated, or possibly other similar coins. Sometimes they are hard to see but are visible. Do coins get reworked at all? Next one I find I'll try to take a good picture

Sounds good! As you may know, there are a wide variety of errors and post strike damage that can cause part of a design element to be transferred to the fields of a coin, rather than one simple reason.

Here's an example where the top left of this letter most likely an "N" is pretty pronounced and also raised. Am I just seeing things?

@JR, I see some light damage that is vaguely N-shaped, although it is really mostly the second vertical stroke of this hypothetical letter N that is visible. Also, it looks to me like the damage is incuse--that would mean that it would have to be raised on the die in order to produce this on a coin.

Possibly,
I appreciate the input.

It looks raised from the surface field to me. At least the left portion of it. I find them occasionally mostly on nickels where there is an extra star in the field by the edge. Looks exactly like the star next to the date bit on a different side. as if there is an additional image that is not incused. I'll update if I find another.

N put there by the Mint to mean Not an error.
Ghostly shapes appear on lots of coins. Lots of different reasons are usually given. I suspect a Mint in another dimension is trying to communicate with us.
