I've been working on one for awhile. I don't do much CRH. I get a few rolls very occasionally and go through pocket change. So I still have 12 to go and it's been over a year.

I keep upgrading when I find a more red example. My question is:have any of you built an all red collection from circulation? That is my goal and I am just seeing if it is doable.

Thank you

Memorials only? Definitely. I have a number of 60s and 70s in red just from circulation in the last 6 months. Of course they all mostly have fingerprints or black spots sadly but that's what happens in the wild. For some reason some are hard to come by in red but others seem very common.

Doable? Yes, but...you need to search about 100 times more than what you are doing to finish a collection in a couple years. It took me about 2 years to develop a stock of AU/BU's from BANK BOXES...1 million coins and rolling. Of that stock, I could get most all dates except the varieties of 1972 DDO, 1983 DDR, 1960P small date, 1970S small date which I have NEVER to this date found in circulation. Most of my "good finds" were indeed a customer dump of granddad's collection or grandma's penny jar into the Fed distribution pool. The thrill of doing it is one thing, I graduated to building a complete MS60+ set with proofs two years ago. The value of a circulated collection is quite small, basically face value only...well, this is what I had to sell or just give away about ten of these sets I built...was discouraging at the time.

It would be pretty tough to build an all red set from circulation. You can buy BU sets for $30-40 and upgrade from there so I would only attempt a circulation set if you truly love roll searching.

The 1960 Small Date and 1970-S Small Date are a challenge to find in ANY grade in circulation. I've never found the 1960 SD coin, and only two of the 1970-S SD.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
