Wondering how silver-plated quarters ended up in circulation, I looked on ebay and found a lot of silver plated State Quarters being sold in cuff links and also sets in presentation boxes sold by the U. S. mint and other mints. So I guess somebody took them out of a set or jewelry and spent them. They are amazingly reflective, which is why I pulled them out of circulation to begin with.

Sometimes they want to make a few extra bucks making an altered coin. To an untrained eye, they may not pick up on plating on a coin. May not know about the edge being plated over. Or on HSN they plate them to make more seller unwise customers to buy something they just ruined the collector value by plating. Again know what it is, prevents you from getting taken advantage on.
