I picked this bad boy up recently on a whim as I have never seen something like this before. lol

I have not done more than a basic wiki lookup on the history but I find it interesting nonetheless. He ruled from 1258-1266

He was even mentioned in the divine Comedy.

@half, I agree with the information you posted and would attribute this denaro as Biaggi #1276. The inscription on the obv reads + MAYNFRID and the inscription on the rev reads + REX.SICILIE.

Your coin started out round, but unfortunately has been clipped over the years. Here is another example of this coin--you see that alas mine has suffered the same indignity.

Bronze from this medieval period in European history is reasonably scarce. That is one reason why it attracts my interest.
Sicilian bronze most commonly found in this period.

I will be visiting Sicily in early October for a week or do, with an interest in the remains of ancient Greek culture.
I may buy souvenir tourist copy coins, but they will have to be cheap. Genuine coins bring over inflated prices and I won't be buying those anyway, because I think that it may be illegal to buy them. Best to get those from Vcoins, public auctions or Baldwins in London.
