Hello everyone and thank you for reading. My cousin has a coin collection he inherited. After carefully going through it I found a 1990 quarter with no mint mark!! This is a 1990 quarter, not a 1994. And yes I cannot believe my eyes it is a Washington quarter not a penny or a dime! He doesn't believe me that this quarter is so rare that I have never heard of anything ever found! I have many years with collecting yet need some help convincing. Please give any info. To help me get this coin to the right place and not to the local pawn shop for $10. Thank you to any and all that help. *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

The only way we can help is if you post clear photos of both sides of the coin in question.

It is most likely a Grease Filled Die. They were relatively common on 1989 quarters but it does happen in other years as well.

Is there a way to tell if the problem was caused by a Grease Filled Die? I can't find any info. About a 1990 quarter with no mint mark. This seems to be in a whole different world. I have searched the internet up and down, what surprises me the most is every time I find something with 1990 no mint mark quarter, it ends up not being a quarter or even that year. Not one search has found a replica, even if it was a Grease Filled Die. I really do appreciate any and all help, Thank you again friends.

Without any pictures, for all we know you have the one and only no-mintmark 1990 quarter. We can't help you without a decent photo.

If it's a Grease Filled Die (which is about the only thing it COULD be), it's worth about 26c. Note that if there had there been coins minted w/o the mintmark (accidentally left off the die) these would be well known by now.
