to CCF. I don't think it effects the grade, but it will the eye appeal. Give it a bit and more members will chime in.

As you may know, this is a high grade, better date scarce coin. It looks AU55 - AU58 to me based on spotty luster, but there is a huge price jump between those two grades. AU55 is about $350 and AU58 is about $1,350. So depending on where you fall, there is a $1,000 difference or a four-fold difference in price.

The ding is minor, but buyers are going to be picky at this price level. I do not believe it would preclude a straight (not damaged) grade but I would recommend you have it graded at one of the third party grading services.

I am leaning toward AU55 because of the soft detail in the hair and the limited luster but you will need professional certification for the big bucks anyway and this coin certainly merits the expense of certification.

Thanks for sharing this coin with us and

I am leaning toward a cleaned coin, thus unconclusive. That and the ding, regardless of the scarcity, keep it in a lower tier price range. If I was faced with this coin at $350 (just a totally made up value for this example) and $350 for a gem other coin (diff year and MM, or totally diff value) then I would go for the better quality coin. But, that's just me.)

AU-55. Rim ding is not significant enough for a Details grade.

I would also add that there are a lot of banged up, ugly au55s out there. Despite the minor rim ding, this coin has great eye appeal with clean fields and a clean cheek.

It's not very often I disagree with Mox.

And yes, to CCF!
