I had really not intended to buy this coin I tossed in what I presumed to be useless bid and was somewhat surprised to find out I now owned the darn "thang" for all of 32 euros !
On arrival I noticed the edges are 'rasped' At first I was somewhat alarmed by this but after a quick google image search I notice that the edged type are not uncommon. More importantly they were not die matches to this one. Relatively common coin but nevertheless reasonably attractive. I cant make much out in the countermark and some of the legend appears to be ...... obliterated ?
Augustus AE24 Kingdom of Thrace King Rhoemetalkes Obv BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΡOIMHTAΛKOY Jugate heads of King Rhoemetalkes & Queen Pythodoris right with countermark Rv KAIΣAΡOΣ ΣEBAΣTOY Bare head of Augustus right 11 BC - AD 12 9.53 grams 24mm RPC 711
The bust details are of the nicest I'm seen on this type, much nicer that the ones I have. However I not sure what going on with the legend if it is a counter mark or an attempted to deface the coin.
