What you have here is called Die Deterioration Doubling, caused by a worn out die. Your coin is in a Late die state. The upper part of the 5 also took a hit as well. http://www.error-ref.com/die-deteri...on-doubling/

The funny thing is Die Deterioration Doubling is more common on Copper plated Zinc Cents than on copper Cents. I think it's because of the composition maybe?
