Note the column to the right of the one with the Statue. They is was is remaining of what was a full false column. There are 4 normally happen on the dies to give the 3-D affect of the columns behind it.

Note the rows that have columns behind them?

Bay 1 on the left, Bay 5 on the left, bay 7 on the right and bay 11 on the right.
Just like the building there are rows behind these open areas portrayed as in 3-D normally on a fresh die. When the die are polished the fields are affected as they are the outside edge of the bay. But guess what? The bays are also on the same outside part of the die. The columns are set deeper into the die. So when die polishing happens and the fields are reduced, the bays edges are also affected. So just as the full false column was altered your coin, the same polishing altered the 5th bay and that is what your are seeing. Note how rough the area is on the 7th bay were the false column was removed? That is also what happened to the bay without the false column. We see the altered rough edge that was straight when the die was fresh. Now polished, it looks like a welder was used on that area. But it is not a extra columns.
Extra columns are found on the centers of the bays.
