Hi,

I really only collect ancients now put years ago I collected everything. I found this coin in a junk shop about 20 years ago in Dublin. There were about 30 of these in a tin but as this one was in the best condition I pulled it and bought it (for about 10p)

I think it is a rarer date and think it minght be real given when and how it was found - but I am not sure

any thoughts?

many thanks

"I think it is a rarer date..."
You're right there! Mintage was 309.000 If it all checks out, and the coin is somewhere around XF45, the US market price would be approx. USD $750.

"There were about 30 of these in a tin"
Wow...well, at least you have one.

Hi - I certainly suspect they wern't all of this date and most of them were very worn (It is a long time ago now) - I just happened to pull this one out as it was in pretty good condition - I had no idea of US currency at the time - and indeed I don't collect it at all - ancients are my thing

Just a bit of luck really - It doesn't happen often ...:)

That's pretty amazing...you picked the rarest Indian Head cent (by mintage figures). The only one more valuable is the 1877.
This coin looks legit to me (the date for 1909 is only in one position) A closeup shot would help confirm the mintmark. Then again, who would fake a 1909-S for 10p?

Sometimes I have finds like this. A while ago, I dropped by a military relic shop to find an 1844 half-farthing in AU. I thought it was a good deal for $5, but it turned out to be the scarce E/N variety.
