From my understanding mint marks were hand punched before 1990. Now I don't know if this is true or not and that's why I'm post this coin. I know the "D" is out of place compared to all the coins, but I would like to know what some of you here think on the matter. Thank you for the help in advance.
Yes, that's correct. Mint marks were puched by hand into the die until 1990 for Business Strike coins. What you have here isn't an error. It's just a different mint mark location. The mint mark locations varied when it was punched in by hand. They wouldn't be the same everytime.
Thanks E.a.V. for the info. At least this coin will be a good example for me. So errors would be only if the Mint is touching the bust, rim, or date right?
