Nice looking slabbed coins - can't go wrong there. Always nice to see older coins in MS.

Nice pick-ups, Kyle. I particularly like the walker, one of my favorite designs!

Nice, just the type of coins I'd buy.

When you look at those it makes me wonder why the Mint ever stopped using that design. Never met anyone that didn't like those two.

Quote: When you look at those it makes me wonder why the Mint ever stopped using that design. Never met anyone that didn't like those two. At the time the Mint was operating under the misapprehension that the coinage law of 1890 REQUIRED the designs to be changed every 25 years rather than permitting them to be changed. That was why the Barber coins were changed in 1916 and the nickel changed in 1938. The dime, and half dollar were due to be changed again in 1942 and it was discussed, but it was decided that with the war going on it would be better not to change the designs at that time. Of course the dime was changed after the death of FDR due to the obvious connection between the President an the March of Dimes. Why the half dollar change was delayed after the war ended until 1948 I'm not sure, but I do know that the mint was busy producing medals/decorations for all the soldiers at that time. Possibly they were just too busy and didn't get around to making the change until the backlog of decorations was taken care of. Then they went ahead with the change that had been planned for in 1942.
