Even upside down I can tell this is just plain MD. Flat, D narrowed on both sides and if tilted you can see the stress marks on the in & outside of the coin from bouncing.

On this coin the MD doesn't appear flat. Doubling both east & south on lettering. Is this just because the letters are rounded and not as square as what is being used now ? Also there appears to be no narrowing or damage to the letters. Why ?

Normally, Die Deterioration Doubling manifests itself away from the center of the die, in the direction of the metal flow. In this case with the dime, the doubling is inside or towards the center. This is more than likely Machine Doubling.

As to why there is no narrowing of the letters involved? It maybe that there is, but it is to small to be noticed.

Is this a proof coin? Looks like Strike Doubling as they are struck several times?
