how do you, if at all clean a coin that has been in a fire? I recently purchased some foreign coins and some of them show signs of fire damage.

By some of them exactly what do you mean? Also, to what degree do they appear to be fire damaged? Many variables to what is meant by a fire.
I suggest you start with just plain distilled water soaking. If this fails, try a soaking in Acetone. If this fails, it is time to just try whatever you can imagine. Like solutions such as Tomato Juice, Lemon Juice, Vinegar, etc. Just remember that as you try different methods, you also utilize more of an expenditure so whatever you try, think of the cost.
