Lately I've been casually collecting pennies before 1982 and now find that I have maybe 200 of them. As this amount will grow, I'd like to know what's a good way to store them. Toss them in a drawstring bag? Some kind of box? Right now they're sittng in a cup like thing. Suggestions?

It really doesn't matter because you are obviously saving them for the melting pot when ever they legalize the copper Cents to be melted . So what ever you decide to store them in is ok.

I wonder, did people store jars of pennies in 1918? If they did, did they ask themselves whether anybody in 100 years would wish they had stored one of those pennies differently? Sometimes I wonder things like that.

I roll them in paper rolls of 50 each and stash them in a shoe box on a shelf in my basement.

Paper rolls, tube rolls, cardboard 2x2s, plastic 2x2s, and maybe a shoe box to put them in for storage.

Really depends on what grades, circulation picks or OBW? ifits a BU/MS, it's a longtime storage, if just AU/BU or copper, in a bucket or canvas bag with some dessicant packs, nothing else is necessary. Then are you collecting/hoarding or collecting/investing? Collectors (of any kind) are one or the other, bottom line.

I put myself in collector class. Nothing major, it is definitely fun and this comes from a person who's never collected anything before. I inherited a small bag of coins from the late 1800 early 1900s from my grandfather and it piqued my interest. Now with a couple young grandchildren of my own, on one of their recent visits, I brought out my magnifying glass, a penny coin book and the cup full of pennies. They had a very enjoyable time looking through that magnifying glass and spying pennies that would fill the right slot. It was very enjoyable to me to watch them! Who knows, it could spark a life long interest in coins for them.
