In 1942 there were experimental planchets made of bronze and copper that weighed 2.7 g! 1 1943 D found was auctioned off in 2010 for 1.7 million. There were 40 planchets made!
I'm having mine graded, and so far I know they graded it XF40BN

Yes! Pictures of the slab stating that claim would be nice and do you have a link for that 1943 D that was auctioned off in 2010 for 1.7 million.

Thanks for that link Mark1959.
Is this the same coin that was inquired about a year ago or a different coin?

Bronze is an alloy that is composed of 95% copper. The density of bronze and copper and thus very, very close. There is no way adding a touch more copper to bronze changes the weight, or any other characteristic, much at all.

Chances are the coin is damaged in some form or another.

Did you make a special request to have them review it for weight and composition? I assume so, but...

The way I see it, (just like last time this coin was posted) - thin rolled plantchet or acid - but at XF40 most likely not acid coin but a thin roller. Does happen - more than you realise.

Submitting this coin on the basis of possible undocumented experimental cents in 1948 seems rather a long shot, I think.
