Hello, I am new to coin collecting, and just purchased my second gold coin which arrived today. It is a 2018 Gold Britannia with Oriental Border, from an online dealer. It's a beautiful coin, but on one side there is a grey spot (you can see in the last two pictures by the nose). It appears to be the color of the metal itself, not a dust spot or something on top. Is this normal and acceptable for a new uncirculated coin? I was a bit disappointed considering the cost of this coin, but not sure if I'm overreacting. Thanks!

@buffalo12, first welcome to CCF. Second, while gold bullion is not my area of expertise, the issue of spots on uncirculated or proof gold coins has come up multiple times in the past. If you use the search box with the keywords GOLD SPOT, you will see several of these threads (along with a bunch of unrelated threads talking about the spot price of gold). Here are a couple relevant examples:

The consensus seems to be get that you when this happens you should try to get your money back. Not sure if that is possible in your case.

Spence has steered you in the right direction. And as to whether you are overreacting or not. You spent good money with an expectation that was not met. So in my mind you are not overreacting.

No, you're not overreacting. I would be a bit disappointed too. However, APMEX currently has these for $45 over spot and definitely classifies them as "Grade: Bullion N/A," so the seller probably fulfilled their end adequately. That said, most online bullion houses have customer friendly replace policies so definitely contact them if it bugs you. I would, despite the hassle. I hope they take good care of you. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for the replies! I purchased it from Provident Metals and under condition it is listed as "uncirculated." I have reached out to them requesting a replacement so hopefully they will agree to exchange it.
Rest in Peace

Thanks for the new replies! I did send a picture to Provident Metals and although they said they don't think it would affect the value, they will exchange it if I'd like, so I'm going to send it back. I'll post some pictures in the new member section of my coins once I receive this new one. Thanks again for the advice!
