For $80, that wouldn't be such a bad thing. But I'd have held out for a nicer piece without the scratches, even if it cost more.

$80 was fair, but then you own a 20 cent piece. I have had a similar one for so long I've forgotten where it is.

I definitely wouldn't have. That is a good size area of damage, and the 1875-S is a relatively common date with plenty of problem-free examples out there.  to the CCF!
