I found this 1979 D LMC and the date is partially legible with surface damage or possible lamination. What do you think? Error or no big deal?

It's a damaged coin. It's Post Strike Damage (it happened after it left the U.S. Mint). It can be safely spent.

It's PMD (post mint damage), not a mint error. Spender.
