Meow is thinking of buy some coin collecting supplies very soon. Meow wants to buy non paper 2x2s for better coins in Meow's collection. Meow has so far bought a few brands of snap holders like Guardian, Marcus, and Whitman. Meow so far likes the Whitman ones as they are slim and don't detract from the coin with colored backings. The problem with that is that the Whitmans seem to be the most expensive. Oddly Whitmans use the least amount of material to make them. (slimmer, no inserts). Does anyone here also like the Whitman ones? If not why? And if there are any other fans of the Whitman snap holders, where have you been able to buy these in reasonable bulk, at a reasonable price? Meow is finding getting the supplies to collect coins can be quite pricey indeed. Meow is also in the process of deciding what brand of album/type to buy for a ATB Quarters. Meow likes the blue color of the Whitmans lbums for now Meow will think about it a bit more, or wait to hear from others. |

It sounds like you are saying that you are looking to step up from the inexpensive clear or cardboard 2x2s http://goccf.com/t/323325A). With the fancy 2x2s comes higher prices. Are you sure that your coins require this added expense? Just askin' (no offence intended). "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

Well yes its true that Meow has just started out, and does not much to show of big value. But Meow does not like cardboard holders. Meow does use clear vinyl flips for CRH finds. But Meow has a small collection of BU coins from the 60s and 70s that Meow wants them in holders better than vinyl or cardboard. Or very rarely Meow will find a GEM BU coin CRH, to put in a nice holder to keep the tarnish away. Now to most, this not a big deal at all; But Meow found a absolute gem 1985 dime CRH last week. Meow thinks the coin might be good enough for MS67. So for such a nice find, Meow would like a nice holder for it. So Meow was just asking to see what others do in regards to coin supply etc. Meow just put in a order for a ATB Quarter album. Meow hopes to fill it with just coins found CRH. Doing all this is very fun for Meow. |

Yup, coin collecting supplies can be pricey. The supply dealers that I typically check are Coin Supply Express, Jakes's Marketplace, Valley Coin Supply, Wizard Coin Supply and of course ebay. I keep all of my raw single coins in either Whitman or Marcus clear, hard plastic 2x2 snap lock holders (Marcus is usually a bit cheaper, but in IMHO a little less quality.) in typical 2x2 double row cardboard boxes. Current prices for this type of holder are usually $15-$20 for a box of 25 holders, or 60 to 80 cents per holder. As someone else mentioned, for common coins, this type of holder is probably more expensive than the coin but I like the consistency of a single type of holder. |

Meow did try the Marcus ones too and did not like them as much as the Whitman ones. Even tried guardian, but Meow did not like big the foam inserts. So going to try the album thing now too. It really starting to add up just for the supplies. Here are two guardian holders Meow got to house Meow's very first CRH finds, two 1968 d/d rpms. Meow kinda hates the holder as it takes away from the coin too much, so will change it to Whitman snaplocks one of these days.  |

But anyway Meow is still a beginner coin collector. If
you want, Meow can show some impressively valued things. (Not coin Related)

Think about if you continue collecting coins that someday you'll have thousands of them. Possibly many thousands. If to many are in any kind of plastic holder, you may need a separate house just for them.

Even some things that could have been worth a fortune if Meow kept on collecting it. Like Magic cards. Meow bought some just to have something to hoard, but became disinterested in it. Those are worth several Cats lives now. Meow still does have a few almost worth a life or so. Oh, and Meow paid off Meow's car loan about 12 years ago with the sale of a ONE Basketball card. But Meow is a retired Kitty, and does not have good income anymore. So on a budget, Meow has started to collect coins. The CRH keeps Meow quite occupied lately, and Meow enjoys it immensely. Meow does take a bit of offence when one has the nerve to suggest that Meow's coin collecting is not good enough for them. Edited by MeowtheKitty

Oh, and also as a collector of various things over the years; Meow would think that people in a hobby would be overjoyed to have a new hobbyist join their ranks with serious desire to be part of it.

And sometimes when Meow finds a fairly rare find but not particularly valuable coin, Meow treasures it. As is brings back Meow to the thrill of the hunt. Common dead birds are not worth anything, yet Cats will offer them up as prizes to people important to them, and proudly display them. As Meow has mentioned before, Meow will prize a high end GEM BU common coin found CRH. As Meow can appreciate how difficult that can be to find. As Meow has found, finding OBW bank rolls of a certain year means nothing; As there might not be a single coin that would be considered a Gem in all of them. As far as Meow's limited experience goes, Meow has gone through entire boxes of circulated nickels without finding ONE coin worth being graded regardless of value. And a from what Meow has seen, a 2018 nickel that grades MS 68 would have a technical value of thousands. Edited by MeowtheKitty

If you like very nice holders, than I don't blame you at all. Sometimes it's better to have them, especially for the rarer coins that you find CRH.
