I sometimes set up at a local flea market where there is a surprising amount of coin activity. I'm looking to purchase this analyzer in the near future and wish to offer bullion analysis as a service at the flea market for a nominal fee. I understand that, by itself, this service would in no way pay for itself as the unit costs $1350.

I'm thinking charging $1 per piece or 1% of value, whichever is greater. Does that sound fair?

So, 1 oz gold bullion about $12 and change? Seems like a good idea if buying in that type of venue. What guarantee will you offer? Will you take pics and keep records?

I think you're opening yourself up to unnecessary risks for basically little to no reward.

Honestly how many people do you think will be bringing gold to a flea market to have it analyzed? What happens if you say something is real but the plating was just to thick and you get sued over it? As mentioned above why would someone pay you if you don't offer a guarantee or certificate? What happens when you say something is fake and another person there sues you?

All good points... there would be no guarantee, only my opinion. And of course anyone can be sued by anyone for anything. I'm a regular there so the guys that buy and sell coins all know me. It's the stranger who might present the problem. Then again, I'm giving my opinions all the time on coins without the detector; you can still make an informed opinion with experience and a gram scale.

I've never seen a genuine, unslabbed 1916-d Mercury dime there in years and there are always plenty of 'suspect' Morgans and Eagles to be had every Saturday.
