If you look at the eagle you will see around it traces of other marks. As well as the crown above it is incomplete. Ease help to ID this thaler as well as info on the ghosting. Is this something unusual and scarce?
Please help
Rick

It looks to me like it maybe some sort of planchet flaw.
There is one area that looks like it is lower causing a weak strike in the crown.
Also there are many lines reaching right to the bottom that shouldn't be there..

Maybe someone else might have a different idea.

On the obverse, I can see 3 Cuds that are starting to form.
Errers and Varietys.
Rest in Peace

That reverse die is beginning to fall apart. Spider cracks are forming, this causes the portions of dies to sink or swell making differing strikings.

I don't know if anyone ever did an overlay for this, but I personally would suspect a die clash.

It looks like simply clash marks. Go n line and read about them and do what they say o be sure of my opinion. Basically, you stare at one part of the design that should not be there and carefully turn the coin over to see if it matches the design on the other side.

Actually, it does. I see a "nose" on the reverse!

Now I see it too!

I kept getting confused because I thought I was seeing a clash in coin orientation, which didn't quite fit. But it's actually a clash in medal orientation, and the details fit perfectly.

something looks off to me about the relief..especially on the lower obverse portrait. I suspect it to be a counterfeit where the manufacturing was poor and a die clash would be overlooked, but if legit, it is a cool piece.
Feel free to call me Will.
