I came across this 1927 P LWC with a myriad of things going on. First thing that popped out was the parts of the obverse are extremely reflective and the parts that are not bright and shiny are equally reflective. So, I'm thinking plating until I look at the reverse which looks like a normal cent except that it has quite a few blemishes itself. everything on the reverse is raised as if it were die breaks or dents. It weighs 3.05 gms. Cool cent to have nonetheless.

Pretty messed up. Those incuse marks throw it into the cull zone. It may have had something on the coin at one time, thus the color differences? Too bad stuff happens to old coins. Well it is still a Wheat cent that could be a hole filler.

In the second pic the raised area looks like the outline of a 2. Definitely a hole filler. I will keep it for curiosities sake.
Rest in Peace

Jim, for some odd reason, people used to coat cents with shellac or varnish to retain the shine. For jewelry or maybe a mounting of sorts as special purpose? I have found many just like that, sometimes acetone removes a varnish but will leave it two-toned, it is at bes a damaged coin. It has spent some time, recently being ground into the pavement.

Yes sir it sure has. Thank you and I'll make note of the shellac preservation method.

Judging from the underlying wear, this was polished and coated well into its life.

Looks like it was coated with something, then it fell off later in circulation.
