The 68S and 69S are notorious for Machine Doubling. Notice the mintmark also doubled. If it were a double die the doubling would not be on the mintmark. This is a nice example and still a keeper in my book.
Thx for the info. I thought it was neat with the doubling on the face also. I'm still learning with the whole double die stuff. I hope to understand it some day lol.
If it helps, doubled dies are doubling that occurs during the die manufacturing process. The other forms of doubling (strike, Machine Doubling, Die Deterioration Doubling) occurs in the process of striking the coin. The 1968 cent you have has the mintmark applied by hand after the die was hubbed so if it was a doubled die the mintmark would not be doubled. This is a quick explanation but I hope it helps some.
