This is another series where it is sometimes difficult to tell weak strike from actual wear. Grade opinions please.........

Hi Cuprous,
I don't mind going first....

This coin looks solid for EF-40, but IMO could be as high as AU-50 depending on luster. The date, IGWT, parts of the obverse wreath, and the obverse denticles all seem blunt and/or weak which I would attribute to striking problems. The incomplete horizontal shield lines are also probably the result of a weak strike. In contrast, the reverse stars are well-struck with good radial line definition.

The darker color around the 5 on the reverse indicates the coin did see enough circulation to dull the surfaces in this area. That for me puts the upper grade limit at about the AU-50 mark.

These are such neat coins. My first thought was no better than xf, but as CuprousCoin points out a weak strike and actual wear are difficult to distinguish........ a luster shot would really help. I agree with Jaobler that the area around the 5 does show some wear and keeps the coin in the xf to au range.
Is that a die break at the top of the obverse?

It appears that there are two small pin scratches from the lower right wreath to the rim on the obverse and two small pin pricks by AMERICA and one by CENTS on the reverse. The overall look of the coin is very nice and the marks are not distracting. I would call it EF45.

I also felt it was in the XF-AU range and am quite pleased that this seems to be the consensus . as hadley dog pointed out, there is a die break on the obverse top, which I feel confirms the fact that the die was approaching the end of its life and would result in some weak strike characteristics on the coin. the overall color is light gray with virtually no luster , but it has been a nice part of my type set. Thank You Everyone
