Hello, I'm checking to see if this nickel has extra thickness (collar) and doubling (star / date) as well as Die Deterioration or is only the later or something else? I'd also like your take on whether doubling on VLDS coins and worn coins (...no FS here) are even worth keeping. Thanks everyone.

You are correct, the date shows a Die Deterioration. I see a scratch through the R of LIBERTY. Close up of the Neck shows a slight abraded die.

Most events are from the die showing its age. On the 5 on the date there appears to be some MD. The is probably what caused the look on the rim area as well. So a combo of events going on, but not a premium for any of them.

Your coin shows heavy Die Deterioration and Die Deterioration Doubling, caused by a worn die issue. The die was in a Very Late Die State (VLDS), when your coin was struck. Just a tired die almost ready for retirement soon.

Thanks everyone. Not this coin, but for the question of if there is a coin with true hub doubling from a very worn die ... is there a premium?
