I found this cent and it just stood out from all the other cents I have been sifting through. Lincoln's bust just seems to stick out a lot farther than any other cent I've seen lateley. So I have a few questions.

It can't be a proof because it wasn't struck at San Fransisco?

Does a deeply struck coin outweigh some of the circulation it has seen?

The pics don't seem to bring out the 3D image. The bust also appears larger than other coins. Just an illusion from the strike I suppose?

If you looking at collector point of view, Yes, many will take fully detailed strike over some circulation (general speaking, am clueless for Lincolns)
As far as grading companies, I believe at the level of 65 or 66 up they must be strike nicely for US coins. But when it comes to world coins, graders do not pay any attention to strike, they look almost solely at the fields.

I for one would prefer a nice, sharply struck AU55 over a bagmarked, spotted, grubby ol' MS60 any day.

It's probably just well struck and you're used to looking at the modern zinc cents for which the relief was greatly lowered.

It's a keeper. I've compared it to my 1968 S thru 1974 S cents and it's more deeply struck than them. I appreciate your comments.

I know the 1972 cent isn't a hot topic! lol I just thought it strange to be so deeply struck without an S on it.
