This 1986 D Washington quarter was in pocket change. On the Reverse, there appears to be either some kind of die error or damage. I first notice this coin on the Obverse right-side rim, where the rim appears damaged or awkwardly shaped. Any insights on this coin are appreciated.

@DOC, there may have been a slightly mis-aligned die on the obv, but it seems more likely that this area has been damaged. Can you please post a pic of the edge reeding in this area (three o'clock on the obv)?

Hi Spence. Side view isn't great. I noticed the obverse has a slight bulge (barely noticeable) where the Reverse side gauge is (see area outlined in red).

I do see heavy die flow lines, so that means that the die that struck your coin was in a Late Die State.

Good point @E&V, but I'm wondering more about the rim in that same region. Any thoughts? Is it MAD or PMD or something else?

A telltale sign of PMD rather than a strikethrough or die fill.
