1994 Liberty Penny With "Liberty" Error

This 1994 Liberty Penny was found in pocket chain. Apparent error between "I" and "B" in "Liberty". Any insights into the cause are appreciated.

It's a nice die chip between the I and B, but the reverse damage rules out a possibility of this being worth much of a premium above face.

@DOC, a really helpful website for die chips in the word LIBERTY is cuds-on-coins (your is called an IIB variety). I actually don't see this one posted on that website yet!

Very nice Die Chip! As mentioned, the coin is unfortunately damaged too badly to be worth a premium over face value though. You may keep it, if you still like.

Spence, thank you for the reference to cuds-on-coins. As you mention, the 1994 penny isn't listed. Makes me think that despite the poor condition of the Reverse that its a one of a kind. Think I'll hang on to it.

decadeofchange , it doesn't mean that it's one of a kind it means that it hasn't been seen by them yet, not every body collects BIES I do and have hundreds of them
