AFAIK, all US nickel coins have been and still are 75% copper and 25% nickel.

Edit to add: the Copper-Nickel Indian Head cents are 88% copper and 12% nickel.

I'm not sure I understand your question.

Nickels are made of 75% copper and 25% nickel, and have been since the first one was made in 1866. The exception was 1942-45 when they were made of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese.

Canadian nickels used to be made of pure nickel, however.

I believe Canadian nickels have (or at least had) a much higher percentage of nickel in their nickels. A lot of nickel is mined in Canada.

Edit: Bob, you beat me by 14 seconds!

I hear they have a lot of them in Canada.

(The CCF 'Want To Buy' forum might hook you up with some of our Canadian members. ebay should also work as a source.)

When I taught high school chemistry I used a Canadian nickel to show the students that nickel, the metal, was indeed magnetic. US nickels did not have high enough nickel content, but the Canadians did.

So true !....So true !
But nowadays, I have a RedBook in the office, a Bluebook in my truck, and piles of books and magazines at home !........I try to keep all of my bases covered now !
AND I've learned that it takes Jbuck about 6 seconds to pull a "Gotcha" ! ........(sometimes even when you DO have a reference book with ya!)....
