Well nickels are not clad or plated. So they blew it on the grading. The green vertigo makes it look like the coin was affected by being outdoors. Also the weight is within tolerance.

How could it be a retained struck through but weigh slightly less than a normal nickel?

I think the fact that it's clad is part of why it's a major error.

I was amazed when I found this coin on ebay that's the reason I posted my coin because it looked similar to it.
