Unfortunately, it's not an error. Looks like environmental damage to me. Stained and corroded, may have spent some time in the dirt.
Rest in Peace

That one came out of my old rural mailcar cupholder, was spent on snacks in 2007.

to the forum!

Just environmental damage (staining and corrosion).

What makes you think it's clad?

To CCF! Not to burst your bubble, but this is not an error at all. This is Environmental Damage. It's Post Strike Damage (it happened after it left the U.S. Mint).

To help the OP, would an acetone bath perhaps help to remove the environmental/chemical toning?

I am new to this so I have never used any chemicals and don't want to damage the coin. Should I take to coin dealer near me to check it?

Ok yes don't stress--we are here to help.

As others have stated, the most likely explanation is that your coin is just corroded and has a passing resemblance to that error coin you posted. I was thinking that if you left this nickel in an acetone bath, the surface color would change back and you would see that there is actually not a copper layer.

If you use the search function on the top left of your screen, you can see multiple threads talking about acetone and some of the precautions that you would need to take.

Most dealers know less about errors than the people here.
