I found this 2003 D LMC with what appears to be an incomplete plated planchet. I do not believe this was chemically altered as there are no flow lines, just a fading of the plating. It was well struck and the zinc shows through as a dull gray with no signs of copper anywhere in the crevices of any of the devises. This cent weighs 2.51 gms. Could this have happened during the annealing process?

Seen them before. Most think it is from a cigarette lighter. I saved a few that I found just in case it is something else.

I'm thinking this coin was burnt. The weight is normal (it would of been reduced, if it was a genuine error coin). It's Post Strike Damage.

Thanks John1 and David! I still think I'll keep it as I haven't ran across any others like it.
