Hello everyone! I have found a 1948 Jefferson nickel. It is holed, unfortunately, but what intrigues me is that there seems to be a print with the characters 3A over the Monticello building. Anyone knows something about it? I will post photos within a day or two (my camera is not good enough). Thank you in advance. Any help will be very much appreciated!

to Community. As mentioned above an image of your coin is needed. Without seeing it and going by your description, I'll venture to guess that it maybe a counter stamped coin, meaning someone hand punched/stamped the characters onto the coin but that usually done on the face of the coin and not reverse, so we will wait to see your pics.Just follow the links that john has provided.

To CCF , sounds like a counterstamp coin that someone might have worn around their neck . The 3A having meaning for that one individual .

Thank you for your welcome and for your answers everyone! I hope the photos are good enough. On a closer look there seems to be a double T or double I after the A.

To the CCF That coin has been heavily damaged and looks like it has been soldered to something. I think what your seeing is PMD. Whatever caused it, it wasn't done at the mint, so it's not an error.
