I found this 1978 P LMC with what appears to be possibly the worst case of DD I have ever seen. It weighs 3.10 gms. I don't think it has been chemically altered due to its weight but I could very well be wrong. The rim is affected but not the collar. Thoughts on this orange peeled monster?

Looks acid dipped. Not the original surface on the coin.
Rest in Peace

worst case of doubled die? Don't abbreviate Die Deterioration that way, confusing! The pitting is a sign of acidic action on copper. This could be straight acid(nitric, sulfuric), a soil content, but most likely took a bath in CocaCola.

Crazyb0, he means Die Deterioration. Jim, unfortunately, your coin took a small dip in acid, causing the surfaces to look rough and pitted. Here's what severe Die Deterioration looks like.
