Today I bought a giant stack of those coin albums people put one of each date and mint mark into. Most are the usual junkers and clunkers that get stuffed in there as folks try to get the whole set. But one was a nice set of mostly AU/BU coins from 1941 to 1974-D in a Library of Coins album.

Going thorugh them I saw one of the 1951-D rpm east varieties but left it in there. However this one had to come out. Pretty hard to come by and some really strong doubling with nearly all deviced doubled including the eye and profile.

I think it is stage 'A' and even fresher than the example posted on the site.

Note the die scratches on 'A' on V.V.? They are fresher.

I think they missed the die crack on the right wheat on that stage 'A' example. A real keeper.

Reverse view of die crack on the earliest die state:

Thanks! Coop I debated about calling it a stage A. That die crack is very light at the rim and the thing looks stage A. You are far better at determining such than I so I do believe I will label it as stage A. Wexler's site lists parallel die scratches above the 9 in the date as stage A, although they don't show up until stage C on VV. It's an early one.

This is the second one of these I've found. The other is an MS with light corrosion, which in an odd twist, I found literally while an MS with light corrosion was being shipped to me as I had bought one off ebay for my collection. Now I find I have three nice ones, two of which I found.
