It was Struck Off Center. The Copper plating has cracked, and it seems to be peeling off on the top of "WE" in "IGWT".
Errers and Varietys.

Yep. That's pretty common for that to happen. The Copper plating can't handle the stress from the Off Center strike, and it cracks, do to being stretched out too much.

Nice off center strikes but now , with the zinc exposed, how do you stop it from corroding? Need to get them into something air tight I suppose.?

Acetone soak + hydrogen peroxide might do the trick! But an amazing coin all around.

Got acetone & never touched it my bare fingers. Why hydrogen peroxide? The 2 I got where from someone that had them in these 2x2s for god knows how long sitting in ammo cans.No corrosion on either. Airtights would prob be the best bet.

Hydrogen peroxide's label usage is as a no alcohol disinfectant but can dissolve PVC, resin, glue, biomass and remove tarnish without altering surfaces or damaging the coin. Often helps where acetone fails.

Gotcha. It's quite clean & most likely hasn't been touched in a decade, maybe more. Need to pick up some airtights & get them out of these holders.

I'd pass on the hydrogen peroxide It is a powerful oxidizing agent, not sure if it would react with the zinc or not. Stick with the acetone. It has a high affinity for water and acts as an excellent drying agent. Now that the coin is clean and dry the key is to keep it in a very low humidity environment Airtight holder inside another with silica gel inside the outer container. If you really want to be sure include another layer of airtight holder and silica. Periodically check the silica and recharge it if needed.

I had no intention of using that & might not even do anything but move them to an airtight. They have been like this for years in these 2x2s. If they were going to rot, probably would've already. Could always give them away & let another person deal with it ;)
