It is actually neither a Close AM or Far AM. It's centered between the A and E evenly, but close as the design of the Master hubs. This begins to change with introductions of new Master hubs in 1969 and again in 1982. It was then that two designs for reverses came into being, the major reverse change was the 1987/1988 change. In the 1998 to 2000 only in Philly was a reverse proof die accidently substituted for some business strikes. Mint errors like this are called "Transitional Errors" , the changing in use of different designs. The most interesting is the accidental use of a polished business strike die on the 1999S Proof.

The change in the late 80's was 1988/1989 putting the error on the 88's. The FG is where this is noticeable.

In 1992 there is the Close AM.
In 1998,1999 & 2000 there is the Wide AM on the Phillies.
