Found this 1865 Three Cent Nickel on the ground and it has to be my find of the year. Its worn but I guess I would be too if I were 153 years old as well!

Wow. You found it on the ground or in the ground?

I believe this one would have been better if the hadn't cleaned it.
It shouts: "I've been cleaned!" "I've been cleaned!"

Coinfrog, I found it out there in my garden while tilling for our winter garden. Mr. Coop, I only used hot water and towel dried it. So I guess you are right in the fact that I cleaned it.

To me, it looks like it has said hello to the tiller a few times. Nice garden find though!

Thank you! The only reason I saw it was a bit of silver shown in the fresh soil. At first I thought it was a soda can tab.

Nice find - would be cool to find the history of that coin how it was dropped there in the first place.

Curious what is the weight and diameter? Also could there be more buried there abouts? Thanks, Doug.

A long read. But helps fill in the blanks of those who were not alive then.

Very cool buried find for sure, especially when you weren't prospecting!

It actually looks darned good for something that contains nickel coming out of the ground. There is normally quite a bit of pitting and rust red coloring that coats nickels that I have dug. Then again that's here in Virginia

Thanks guys! Doug, it weighs 1.47 gms. I do not have any way to measure the diameter but it is just shy by the width of a pin being the same diameter of a modern dime.

That is an excellent find indeed

and it beats the full roll of silver dimes that my stepson found on the ground a couple of months ago. Well, it may just beat it

Thanks David and Arista and Toot! David, definitely my best find! Especially since I've only been collecting since last November.
