Here is an AR Tanka of Sultan Husayn Abu'l Ghazi) of the Timurid dynasty who ruled from 1469-1506. I have very little information about this coins and haven't been able to locate an Album # or information at Zeno. I'm hoping KS can provide some information , especially the translation.

AR Tanka
24mm x 4.7g

That one looks nice. I don't know anything about it, but 24mm is a pretty decent size.

Thanks, I know what you mean. I'm just starting to get into Islamic coinage not an easy area to learn about.

The first photo reads "the very great sultan Abu'l-Ghazi Sultan Husayn Bahadur, may Allah almighty perpetuate his kingdom and his sultanate". In the small cartouche at canter is the mint name "beh bud Herat". Beh bud means "prosperity". The date is usually at lower left but not visible on this coin.

The reverse has the Kalima, "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the apostle of Allah" with the names of the Rashidun and their epithets around.

Sultan Husayn, 3rd reign, at Herat, 1469-1506, Album 2432.3.

Very nice coin Ron!...
It always amazes me the amount of information transcribed on these coins, and even more when someone, @Kushanshah, deciphers it!

Lovely addition congrats...Paul

Thanks all. KS as always I appreciate your help, I have a lot to learn about Islamic coinage. Is there a reference where I can find these translations?

@echizento Nothing quite that direct. Learning to read basic numismatic Arabic with Plant is the first step. Many of the coins follow more-or-less standardized inscriptions with a fairly limited vocabulary. I use Google Translate for unfamiliar words and phrases. Codrington has lists of common phrases, titles, Qur'anic passages, mint names etc with translations. The big hump is learning to see words rather than squiggles. It ain't easy but I find it rewarding, not unlike solving the Sunday Times crossword.

At this point I still only see squiggles hopefully in time I start to get the hang of it.
