Tuesday evening I was hanging out on
ebay,
looking at 50-D nickels in PCGS slabs.
I don't have a nice example, so I zoned in
on a couple of MS-65-66 auctions/BINs.
There was a nice MS-66 (no steps) ending in
about 10 minutes. The bid was still very low.
I think it was around 30 bux. PCGS lists value
at 65 bux. So I figure I'll stick around and
attempt to snipe it for 40-something.
That would be what I consider a good deal.
Anyway, the wife asked me to do something for
her. Heavy lifting. So I set a cooking timer
for 1 minute to spare. I told her when the
timer goes off, get me. Then I would try a snipe.
I had the bid confirmation page already up, and
one click from bidding my 'max price'... 46 and
change.
I was working, lost track of time. I suddenly
realized that I was way overdue. I went to the
wife and she said:
"When the timer went off, I clicked to confirm
your bid... But you were outbid, so I kept bidding
to make sure you got your coin."
Holey cow... she bid all the way to 67 bux to make
sure I got it!
Well, I have an MS-67 50-D Jefferson PCGS now.
Won it Tuesday night, got it Thursday via mail! Fast...
But expensive.
She meant well. It'll just be a long time before
the coin appreciates over what I paid. 72 shipped.
