Die Deterioration doubling, caused by a worn die issue. Also, it looks like you have a Die Chip starting to form at the end of the "S" in "CENTS". http://www.error-ref.com/die-deteri...on-doubling/

A question for CCF, is this coin worth saving in a 2x2? I'm leaning toward this being a spender, but would like to hear what others say.

It would be a spender, as it happens so much, but it wouldn't hurt at all to save it, for educational purposes.

Yeah spend it...it's just a coin that was struck towards the end life of the die. If there was an error such as a die break or Cud then that would be a keeper. These would have happened if the die became damaged and wasn't just in a deteriorated state.

@Spence, is it worth any intrinsic or educational value, that really is what determines saving a coin. Personally, die errors as cracks, chips and basic mechanically created events aren't worth asking a 3 cent 2x2 on. I don't save the "spiked heads" or even a lot of bies unless they are dramatic in nature or size. Storage space and materials cost, usually many times more than worth of the totality of collected errors. I have a couple vinyl pages of examples and educational coins, but most mine are photo-record making a physical inventory Irrellevnant.
