Take a close look at the D on this penny. It is slanted to the right pointing at 1-o-clock. I cannot found anything about this any help would be great. Thanks
The Mint Employee punched the mint mark in a little bit crooked, into the die (mint mark positions will vary on different dies, when they still hand punched mint marks). The mint mark also shows Split Plate Doubling, exposing the Zinc core underneath, from the Copper plating getting too stretched out during the strike. http://www.error-ref.com/split-plate-doubling/
